E-MASTERCLASS SERIES| PROSECCO DOC

A  JOURNEY THROUGH THE ITALIAN BUBBLES TRADITION AND PASSION

TUESDAY – SEPTEMBER 15, 2020 | 4:30pm-6:00 pm EST

On Tuesday, September 15th , The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Southeast (IACCSE) has proudly held the IACCSE e-masterclass series“Prosecco DOC: a journey through the Italian bubbles tradition and passion”, an online masterclass that gave attendees the opportunity to discover four authentic Italian Prosecco DOC labels thanks to the contribution of importers and distributors operating in Florida, as well as the participation of industry experts.

The e-masterclass was part of the “The Extraordinary Italian Taste” campaign, promoted by the Italian Government and devoted to the promotion of ‘Made in Italy’ products and the education of American consumers on protected denominations.

Prosecco is the world’s most exported Italian wine and the US market alone accounts for 21% of the exports outside of Italy (second only to Europe), with Florida representing a significant share.

During this online event – moderated by Doreen Colondres (Celebrity Chef, Wine Educator, and Cookbook Author) – a panel of experts from the industry shared their expertise and experience in the wine world, with a particular focus on the Prosecco DOC market opportunities and main trends in Florida:

  • Miguel De Arregui, Director of Food and Beverage, Mandarin Oriental Miami
  • Alessandra Esteves, Director of Wine Education, Florida Wine Academy
  • Jennifer Schmitt, Head Sommelier, Zuma Miami
  • Dieter Xiao, Restaurant Operations and Development Manager, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings

The e-masterclass allowed the audience to learn not only about the technical characteristics of each of the presented wines, but also to take part to a journey through the many different aspects that revolve around Prosecco DOC and its legacy in the Italian lifestyle, culture and cuisine. Its territory of origin, the best plates to serve it with, how to create cocktails with Prosecco, are just examples of the themes that the presentations included:

Torresella Prosecco DOC
represented by Kristina Sazama, Wine Educator, Santa Margherita USA
PROSECCO, A SUCCESSFUL STORY

Conca d’Oro Prosecco DOC
represented by Paolo Perillo, Co-owner and Sommelier, Italwine USA
PROSECCO BEST PAIRING

Mille Prosecco DOC
represented by Cristina Mistri, Owner, RDL Wine
PROSECCO COCKTAILS

Marca Oro DOC Brut
represented by Matteo Bolla, Business Development Manager, Cantine Valdo
BUBBLES & MUSIC

The panel of experts, that prior the event received the wine box with the Proseccos, were interactively involved through a live wine tasting.

The initiative was also open to a public of wine lovers that had the opportunity to participate to the masterclass as spectators and learn about Prosecco DOC and the characteristics of each of the four presented wines, as well as to take part to the tasting by purchasing the wines prior the event at the gourmet market:  Origini Italian Market  , Miami (FL)

Happy 90th anniversary Pininfarina!

Almost a century of history. A small artisan workshop turned into an iconic brand synonymous with beauty and elegance and recognized as a symbol of Made in Italy all over the world.
It was May 22nd, 1930 when Battista Farina, known as “Pinin”, signed the deed of incorporation of Carrozzeria Pinin Farina. Today Pininfarina celebrates its 90th anniversary.
Listed on the Borsa Italiana since 1986, Pininfarina has offices in Italy, Germany, China and the United States, with a prestigious design portfolio that includes transportation, industrial design, architecture, interiors, nautical and automotive design. Pininfarina’s human centered approach to design marries the best of each vertical to produce a wholly unique result every time.
In the image is the Cisitalia 202 designed by Pininfarina in 1946. This was the first car in the world permanently displayed in New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Building on aerodynamic studies developed for racing cars, the Cisitalia offers one of the most accomplished examples of coachwork conceived as a single shell, a design achievement that transformed postwar automobile body design.

Sustainability and innovation

Sustainable fashion is one that respects the environment and society in all its phases: from conception, to production, through distribution to sale. This fashion proposal tries to work with less polluting raw materials, reduce production waste such as water and electricity costs, and produce durable pieces, stimulating conscious consumption.
Furthermore, this model proposes a more humane production, without exploitation of labor and with a more equitable remuneration. However, until recently, there has been a lack of measures to help companies to be sustainable.
Nowadays, with technological advances, we will be able to close the gap between sustainable fashion and fast fashion/virtual/e-commerce. We have also begun to see a change in the attitude of governments, big corporations, and in the consumer’s minds (an awareness) towards sustainability, caring for people and their well-being. It is seen as something accessible, possible, and needed.
In this area, Industry 4.0 will be able to bring numerous advantages to the fashion industry, thanks to new advances in technology and new production processes: less polluting and more durable materials can be created, production processes can be more effective by intelligently using the data collected from consumers, reducing use of raw materials, thus reducing not only costs but also the environment impact.
In general terms, it is important that before implementing a digitization strategy, an analysis of all the legal aspects that may affect it is carried out.
ONTIER has created a fashion and luxury department and a representative team from Rome, Madrid and Miami participated at the Miami Fashion Week last June, which was held virtually this year along with Univision.

MADE IN PIEMONTE LUXURY & DESIGN VIRTUAL MEETINGS

The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce recently signed an agreement with Centro Estero of the Piemonte Region to launch a new project – “Made in Piemonte Luxury & Design”.
The initiative will take place from September 21st till September 25th, 2020 and it aims to assist furniture manufacturing companies located in the Piedmont region (Northern Italy) that want to present their products in the US market.
The Chamber will select 2 US buyers among architects, interior designers and furniture distributors and it will organize a webinar to explore more in details the US market and how it is evolving. The 2 invited buyers will have the chance to participate as speakers and to discuss their view with the Italian companies attending the event.
Subsequently there will be a session of virtual one to one b2b meetings between the US buyers and a group of selected furniture producers from Piedmont.
This collaboration will continue when the borders will re-open once the Covid18 emergency will be over. Next year there will be a bigger event and buyers from the Southeast will be invited to a trip to discover new producers in Piedmont and visit their factories.
If you are a professional from the furniture sector and you are interested in being a protagonist of this initiative, please send an email with your contact information to rsvp@iacc-miami.com.

SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION

By Ontier

For some years now, there has been a lot of discussion about sustainable fashion, but it seems that more and more brands are finally joining in. But, what actually is sustainable fashion and what relationship does it have in an increasingly digitized world?

Sustainable fashion is one that respects the environment and society in all its phases: from conception, to production, through distribution to sale. This fashion proposal tries to work with less polluting raw materials, reduce production waste such as water and electricity costs, and produce durable pieces, stimulating conscious consumption. Furthermore, this model proposes a more humane production, without exploitation of labor and with a more equitable remuneration.

The fashion industry has been talking about sustainability for years, but there was a lack of measures to help companies to be sustainable. Nowadays, with technological advances, we will be able to close the gap between sustainable fashion and fast fashion/virtual/e-commerce. We have also begun to see a change in the attitude of governments, big corporations, and in the consumer’s minds (an awareness) towards sustainability. It is seen as something accessible, possible and needed.

Sustainable (or eco-sustainable) fashion fits perfectly into a broader concept of Society 5.0: a society characterized by caring for people and their well-being, by developing an ecosystem favorable to innovation and the development of new technologies. Digitization can further help accelerate all these sustainable goals, as they are also helpful in maintaining certain vital health standards which are key nowadays.

It is a challenging time but there are many opportunities ahead. And, as Susan Scafidi, an American lawyer and the first professor to offer a Fashion Law course, says, “where there is life, there is fashion.”

ONTIER has created a fashion and luxury department and a representative team from Rome, Madrid and Miami participated at the Miami Fashion Week last June, which was held virtually this year along with Univision. Duties on Italian imports – Request for public comments

By Salcedo Attorneys at Law P.A

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is considering making some modifications to the extensive list of European products which were subject to duties in October 2019, as part of the trade controversy between the U.S. and the European Union. The controversy stems from alleged government aid from the European Union and certain states to the aircraft manufacturer Airbus.

In a notice published on the Federal Register on June 26, 2020 (the text is available at this link), the USTR invited comments from the public, i.e. individuals or interest groups, on certain revisions to the duties. These changes may involve the increase, up to a level of 100%, of the duties already imposed on goods listed in Annex I to the notice, which includes such staple Italian products as cheese, ham and cured meats.

Similar increases may occur for products listed in Annex II. Such products previously considered but are not currently subject to additional duties. Italian wine is among the products listed in Annex II. Finally, in Annex III, the USTR lists new products from France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom which are now being considered for additional duties.

Comments addressed to the USTR may discuss: “Whether maintaining or imposing additional duties on specific products of one or more current or former EU member States would cause disproportionate economic harm to U.S. interests, including small or medium-size businesses and consumers.

If you or your business wishes to submit your comments in connection with the existing or proposed duties, you can do so by visiting the following link.

Comments will be accepted until July 26, 2020.
